Check permissions
Both the Xbox app and the individual game require permissions to access the microphone. Games like Sea of Thieves even have a built-in push-to-talk feature, which is something the Xbox and Party apps lack. With this in mind, we suggest that you check all available permissions and allow the Xbox app and game to access the microphone.

This is where you can check the permissions:

Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
Choose Privacy

Select Microphone in the left panel.
Under »Choose which applications can access your microphone«, activate the Xbox application

This was already active. Im attempting to fix the echo and loud sound when I'm in a party.

Yes, that should help with echo and audio problems.

If you are using a wireless microphone and headphones, check that the batteries are 100% this often causes that problem as well. If the connection is by cable, check that the cable or the connection plus is not broken.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

Are you using the built-in mic on your PC/Laptop or are you using your own?

Sometimes using the built-in mic on your device causes echo as the mic and the speakers are around the same place on the device. Thus, when someone talks, it comes though the speakers, getting picked up by your mic.

When this happens with me, I turn down my speakers which helps with this.

Alternatively, press Windows key & G together to bring up the game bar. You can join parties though Game bar which will allow you to use the push to talk setting when you are in party chat.

So this will fix the loud sound and the echoing?

That suggestion will not resolve the echo as you have already given permission for the Xbox App to use your mic. Otherwise, you would not have been able to talk to others in the party - hence have the echo.
